ShellBlastHD: Coming to a Xbox360 near you!
I’m proud to announce the development of ShellBlastHD, a re-visualized game made for the Xbox Live Community Games portal.
Back last year Ben Morris of Optum asked about doing a port of the game to the 360 console. While I’ve given some input here and there, this is 100% the work of Optum’s great programming skills. And I’m incredibly impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
While there’s still a ways to go, the base of the game seems to be done and work is continuing on fleshing out the levels and display. Ben will make a few posts on the game in the coming months to talk more about the game and it’s development.
We’ll announce release dates and pricing later on, so for now let’s check out the official text release:
The commercial sequel to Acidbomb (voted 1up.com’s Best 101 Free Games and Gamespy’s “Download This” pick of December) and Acidbomb 2: Rearmed delivers a unique mind-bending action puzzle experience. Described as a cross between Minesweeper and Picross, ShellBlast is a game that offers something most puzzle games out there lack: a unique experience.
The objective of ShellBlast is simple: using a series of tools, defuse the bomb before it blows up. Of course, the further you progress, the more advanced the bombs get…
Play the fifty level campaign mode as you tour the world defusing increasingly difficult bombs, from pranks to nuclear superweapons! Try the incredibly fun Shell-Drop, which is almost a game to itself, or tackle some of the other modes such as Simulation Chamber, Endurance and Puzzled. All modes conform to Shellblast’s unique gameplay, including randomised bomb solutions that ensure unlimited replay value.
As well as taking what was great about the original, Shellblast HD expands the experience by adding ‘High Definition’ graphics, visual effects, multiple tilesets and a medal system similar to Xbox Achievements and Playstation Trophies.
You can visit Optum’s official site at optum.co.uk.
Interesting…If only I had a 360.
AWESOME!
Too bad I don’t have a 360 either. But I know somebody who does and has already said he would buy your 360 game the moment it was released. He loves your games.
I also need a 360. :p
Thankfully XNA code runs off of PCs just fine.
Heh, well luckily for me a third of my friends owns a 360 as well so I can force them to buy it relatively easy. Trust me, they will. How much…uhm…money do you get out of each sale…?
As I understand it, Microsoft gets quite a nice sum (40-60% I heard? Could be way off though), followed by Optum and me.
I’m still waiting for a PS3 game from you 😀
Awsome you have inspired me to make better higher quality games!!
BTW whens greenTech special ed comming?
Nice. Cant wait to download.
>>Microsoft gets quite a nice sum (40-60%)
Although that sounds evil the other two big boys are doing a similar thing. Nintendo takes 35% Profits through their WiiWare service and Sony takes…well, I spent the past 30 minutes trying to find out but I couldn’t find anything except their indie developer debug kit costs $1200. Sorry.
Awesome! If I had a 360, I would SO buy this. Instead, I will buy it for my friends or something!
I do have a 360. I will buy this. It will be the first thing I ever buy on 360 in the two years or so I’ve had one. I will also tell my many friends who also have 360s to buy it.
Very groovy.
>>BTW whens greenTech special ed comming?
It’s pretty much done, just waiting on the competition results at the moment, which should be here this coming week.
PS3 devving is my goal, but MS makes it much easier for devs like us to break into right now, so you gotta roll with the flow. 😀
Thanks for the support everyone!
Now that I think about it, will the PC Shellblast be getting the graphics updates?
Better suggestion: Just aim to get your games on various consoles. Period. 😀

No, development on that game is locked and done. It uses an old save system so, unlike Spirits of Metropolis and greenTech, it would corrupt saves and custom levels with any type of patch.
Unless we hex edit it! Which tbh is possible if GM doesn’t store the resources in any partuculary funky way.
