Colorblind/Shifter Modes of Spirits of Metropolis

So, I’m finally back with blog content…and lets return swinging with a look at two new modes in Spirits of Metropolis!

First off, something that I’m rather proud of…a full-fledged colorblind editor for the game. Initially I was just going to add some symbols to the gems and call it a day, but thanks to some major feedback from some colorblind gamers (warning: somewhat strong language in this link) I revamped it to it’s own menu. The game will have an option for shapes as well as changing the colors of the gems. Here’s an early look at the unfinished menu:

Here’s a look at the new mode called SHIFTER. Its a mode where the user is not allowed to place any gems on the board whatsoever. Instead, the player uses the arrows aligned along the entire game board to “shift” gems into place and create combos. There are only 2-3 colors in this mode, but that will still make it very difficult in the later rounds.

You’ll also see some improvements for the game in this vid, including combo gems staying “lit up” for easier use:

Well, that about does it for today. I’ll be back next week with more stuff including those birthday card pics I promised a week ago (gah, so sorry about being behind). Happy fourth of July!

Shifter looks fun! And I’m glad you found the best way to do that colorblind stuff.

    Also, NEXT WEEK? *groan*

    😀

I’m not getting my hopes up about the cards. =D

Also, Shifter looks pretty interesting. Can’t wait ’til this comes out!

And finally, I didn’t say anything when you first announced colourblind mode – I kind of saw it as a novelty thing, thinking not that many people are colourblind. But reading that thread mmade me realise that: 1) A lot more people are colourblind than I thought, and 2) You put a hell of a lot of effort into accomodating them. So well done to you for that. Well done indeed.

Also, happy 4th of July. Good riddance to you all. =D

  3. Next week is tomorrow! Hoorah! And it looks great, I didn’t think the colour-blind mode would get this much attention – good job there.

Tomorrow is the new tomorrow, indeed.

  5. blueflare says:

    Hahah, classic Chubs.

  6. So, tomorrow as in the tomorrow that is always a day away but never comes? ;D

  7. blueflare says:

    That sounds about right.

  8. chubigans says:

I did it! It’s only a day late, so nyah!

…unless you count the last month and a half as well, which I wouldn’t. 🙂

There’s only one thing that can be said about shifter mode:
    LEVEL EDITOR?

  10. Oh, A level editor would be awesome!
