The Many Faces of Ore no Ryomi 3 (Part 2)
After trying out some of the designs of ONR (see the previous Part 1 of this post), it was decided to try and go 3D. A new artist was brought in, and in 2006 work started up again.
Game Maker doesn’t have full 3D support, so we needed to create sprites out of fully rendered 3D objects. A cel-shaded style was designed by J.A.Bayne, who created the video intro to Acidbomb 2.
Most of the images were lost in a hard drive crash I experienced a few years back, and that lone tomato was all I could currently find. Most of the images were in that style…a 3Dish look that seemed to work on its own, but not really molding with the background. So, I tried drawing a burger in the same style:
Eh, not bad, but we still had ways to go. So, I tried once again to start up the project in 2007 by bringing in a professional artist…and some real great work was done. Next week I’ll show some images not seen by anyone else on King of All Cooks, which folded in January but something I still want to go for, and why ONR3 is different from King of All Cooks.
Side note: sorry about the lack of updates; my computer *almost* crashed with a bad hard drive but I replaced it in time and 100% back up and running. Woo!
Nice Tomato, that burger looks more like SOG style, eh?
Hmm, was these also made by J.A.Bayne, or was it someone else?

That was back in 2005, by the way.
Sorry for triple post, but there’s no edit button..
I found the higher resolution pics on the forum:

Poor chubigans, he has a bad habit of getting peoples names wrong. 😛
AFAIK, there was 2 3d stylings.
Gah! Damn it, we need an edit button! Nevermind what I said.
hello this is my first comment here!
i mailed Mr. chubigans several times but he answered me just one time. now i want to comment here!
first of all the graphics are not good and i have some ideas about ONR 3 if he want them.
i think the game must create with a program better than game maker like 3dgamestudio.
i want to thanks chubigans for lequisity because i created a game “super breaker” avalable in yoyogames with idea of his lequisity
Hehe, well lucky for you these graphics wont be used.
Secondly the 3dgamestudio is terrible from what I’ve seen. Its just like a dodgy tutorial like “fps or rpg?”, “select crappy model for character”, “Save As”. GameMaker gives you a lot of freedom.
Although I also suggest chubigans starts learning something like Python.
Yeah, I will move to something else at some point soon. Ashkan, I did get your email and I will reply to it right now! Sorry for the wait. 🙂
Hah, thanks for the links everyone…I knew there were some pics out there!
If you’re going to move to another engine, I’d suggest Torque.
wow!
thanks Mr. chubigans “dear david”
and also i want to say torque is too complex and need more time for developing good games
the UI is too bad!!!
the best engine is unreal engine but is not richable for the price more than $10000 and after that gamestudio is the best i had a lot of research.
but anybody can mail me about this at: ashkan_gc@yahoo.com
Engines like these are intended for making huge, generally 3d style games. To use them you require extensive prior knowledge of another programming language (usually C++).
GameMaker is just fine for ONR3, perhaps when ONR3 is released G-Creator or the such will be released so ONR3 can be converted to become cross platform for Linux and Mac but only time will tell.
