Let’s All Be Poor Together!
Many of you know I’ve been working at a coffee shop for the last year, paying off my debt and workin’, and making games mostly on the side. Well, in a few weeks that’s going to shift from part time coffee shop/ gaming hobby to part time game maker.
At that point I’ll have enough money to survive for a while. I’ll still be working at the shop, but making considerably less. But it’ll give me the chance to finally pursuit my game making at a much larger pace than I’ve ever done. And that both excites and terrifies me.
But you know something, game making is something I want to do forever. It causes an immense amount of joy to see an idea being fleshed out and played by lots of people, which is more satisfying than making a Carmel Macchiato to perfection, obviously. Which I can totally do blindfolded at this point.
Anyways the point of this post is to let you know that by the end of the month, I’ll be able to put in a serious amount of time into games, which means more blog and game updates, more games, more everything. The art and music of Neptune Gasoline is complete, and I look forward to sharing more about that game, including the release date, by the end of the month as well. And I look forward to being poor again until the games can pay the bills for the first time. With the impending release of Game Maker Studio, which will allow me to publish to iOS, Android, and Windows/Mac all at once….well, you can guess where my future titles are going to land next.
A toast to Game Making! Woo!
Mmmm…Shellblast on Android? I like this possibility. Should I hold my breath?
I already have a working prototype of a ShellBlast game on iOS that I had to shelve temporarily. De-shelving it sounds like a plan to me! Plus with GM Studio it should be easy to port to Android…
that’s awesome, david! it’s so great that you’re following your dreams!
Went ahead and posted a screenshot of the version of ShellBlast that’ll be released next year: http://twitpic.com/6mdt4e
Wow, can’t wait for the release 🙂
It just occurred to me that a surprisingly large amount of your games would be perfect on iOS and Android devices.
Spirits of Metropolis and Kablooey, anyone?
Also, I’ve heard Yoyo Games talk about GameMaker Studio and Steam. Does this change anything?
It certainly does help, however I think the barrier between Steam and GM is simply game quality, or whatever it is Valve is looking for.
And you’re indeed correct Lost. In fact, I’m really looking forward to iOS since it allows easy upgrades to games. But that’s for another post. 😀
This post is heartening. I teach piano lessons to pay the rent but I’d love to spend more time composing, which is what I really love doing. I applaud you for having the courage to make this bold step… something I’d like to do myself as soon as possible. 🙂
Thanks Ben, and thanks everyone for all the support!
